Walter Meester
HoogkarspelNetherlands
We pronounce it like Kiper where the i is sounded like pi.
>>My surname seems to be spelled many ways. According to US immigration records it was originally spelled 'Kuijper', but changed to 'Kuyper' on arrival in the US. Most Americans have problems pronouncing Kuyper (the 'uy' together seems to cause confusion even though they have no problems with 'guy'). I can't imagine how they would try to pronounce Kuijper!

>Yep, also up here. Kuyper, Kuiper, Kuijper. But do you know how your name is to be pronounced in dutch? It certainly is different from 'guy'. I can't think of any english word that comes close.
