>It's always puzzled me, not why you remained neutral, but more why Hitler ALLOWED you to stay neutral. IOW how come Hitler had no designs on CH but did the rest of Europe? Perhaps it was too much of a climb to get up there :-) Perhaps, like GB, he feared your navy.

:-)

There are a lot of Swiss still asking that question. We were "ready" to defend our borders and keep our neutrality and sovereignty. Knowing how we reacted to foreign oppressors in history, the prize might have been to high (silly, considering the way we were armed at that time).

Anyway, it's hard to tell now. And I don't support that black and white thinking - if it didn't work that way, it for sure works the other way. Life isn't that easy otherwise we would have learned from history..

We established an independent commission (with members from GB, USA, Israel, Poland and Switzerland) to shed light on the subject "Switzerland during WWII"

http://www.uek.ch/en/index.htm

We, as a country, did some things we are not proud of today. But it was a different time then and the fear of an invasion by Germany was always there. It's easy to criticize in hindsight and who am I to blame anyone for what he did at a different time with different knowledge?

At least we learned our lesson and hopefully least we forget. Right now there's a discussion going on about "How much neutrality is good for Switzerland?".

BTW, we do have a navy, but don't tell anybody <s>.
