Like the joke with Dragan, I think they would have given a good account of themselves. Even retreating into the mountains (their home turf) they would have kept up an effective guerilla war. And 1/2 million men is no small militia! If nothing else, it would have kept a good propn. of The Bosche busy on yet another front.
