I used VMWare to test setup files, operating systems, and if programs I download from the internet have spyware attached. It has a snapshot/restore feature that is invaluable. I have a separate machine for XP, 2K, NT, and 98. It is something I didn't think I would use much when I got it, but now I can't live without it.
