It's only called "cannon" because of the noise it makes. It doesn't look like one, isn't aimed at anyone, and doesn't involve any aggressive behavior.

It should be still pliable, but not sticky. So just enough water so it can be kneaded, but dry enough not to leave trace on your hands. Like a bit drier dough.
