It is a lot less likely. Maintain the server well and if at all possible have a UPS on it. SQL server generally doesn't have a problem is a client machine disconnects/reboots/catches fire/etc because it only allows completed transactions to be entered into the database (by its own process - the clients never directly touches the database). SQL Server maintains transaction logs that can be used to recover a database to a very recent state even in the event of catastrophic failure.

SQL Server somewhere between free and really expensive depending on your needs. Other options are available - MySQL and such.

For the last several years I only design and develop on SQL server databases (using VFP as the windows client of course!). Corruption has been virtually nonexistant. Previously with VFP tables corruption was always a possibility and happened too often for comfort.
