I think there's more to it that that: the Latitude is a much heavier machine all around.

As for uniformity of configuration, I was surprised to find the "new" (refurbished) drive Dell is a different brand and is noticeably slower than the 4+ year old one that failed. All I am really asking of it at this point though is that it work until I've bought a replacement computer in 3 months or so :-)
