Hi Lynda,
I have used Dell, HP & Toshiba notebooks in the past. None of can compare to the experience I have had with an IBM Thinkpad for the past 3 years.
It has been by far the most reliable notebook I have owned and the IBM software for managing connection profiles has made life easy moving from client site to client site. I have gone for months at a time without rebooting (just using the hibernate function).
The keyboard is excellent and my one experience with IBM support here in Australia was outstanding - problem fixed on site within 12 hours of placing service call.
I paid a premium price for this machine when I bought it and paid for extended 3yr onsite support as I am a professional developer and my notebook is turned on for at least 12 hours per day. Reliability rather than outright performance was more important to me as I had lost days at a time with problems with my previous Dell.
I typically use it in my office in a docking station with a second 1280x1024 display connected for development.
I have no reason to replace this machine at present as the performance is still adequate and Lenovo no longer have a Thinkpad with 1600x1200 resolution available at present.
I have no direct experience with Lenovo but client experience here has been good.
HTH,
Andrew Harper
