The Spanish spoken in SoCal suffers from its own variations too, of course. Among the gardening crew at my office alone there are Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Hondurans, Salvadorans, and Guatemalans. I've heard them have to repeat things to each other because the dialects differ so. <g>


>Every language has it's own idioms and peculiarities and usage changes over time and by region, making a second language even harder to learn. The Spanish I learned in high school is considered out-of-date by the young people I encounter here in southern California. I'm sure my attempts to communicate make them laugh but I'm usually understood in spite of it :-)
