I'm sure they get a 'giggle' out of it :o) When I was in various central American countries (years ago) the people were so friendly and understanding. I had teachers from various countries (Puerto Rico, Chile, Argentina, El Salvador, et al) during my Spanish training (I went to DLI) so fortunately I was able to understand most of what people were saying in each country, but I KNOW they had a difficult time understanding me. I would forget which idioms to use because I was hopping from country to country. My best friend has a very heavy North Georgia accent (U.S. State of Georgia) and everyone would just ask her to repeat what she was saying over and over again and smile. She thought no one could understand her but I could so I didn't get it. Finally one lady at the cuartel in Penonome, Panama told her that they loved her accent so much they just wanted to here her talk! :o)

>Every language has it's own idioms and peculiarities and usage changes over time and by region, making a second language even harder to learn. The Spanish I learned in high school is considered out-of-date by the young people I encounter here in southern California. I'm sure my attempts to communicate make them laugh but I'm usually understood in spite of it :-)
