The ones that get through the initial stages are separated into the 3 categories and each of the judges "sponsors" one - takes them through training, whittles them down, till there's a few from each that go through to the aired knock-out stage.

>>>I just checked -- his name is Brandon Rogers. My one concern is that his winning confidence could deteriorate into cockiness. That would not go over well with the voters. It's in their hands now. The judges continue to offer their opinions but it is no longer their decision after the preliminary rounds.

>>>Simon Cowell, as annoying as he can be, has taken some unfair shots lately for supposedly dissing Jennifer Hudson of "Dreamgirls" when she was a contestant. In fact Simon liked her. It was the audience who voted her off.

>She was an American Idol contestant who made it into the late rounds three or four seasons ago. She clearly had one of the best voices and there was some grumbling that she was kicked to the curb because she was black or a little overweight. Anyway, she has resurfaced in a big way in the movie "Dreamgirls". She is nominated for Best Supporting Actress and is widely expected to win.

Oh, I only saw the show from last year. Don't think it was on brit TV before that.

Didn't like that screaming Jason "Sundance" Head.

Didn't see anything of Antonella's peformance this week (in the stage audition or hot seat).

BTW, in Brit English, "curb" is used only as the verb, as in "curb your enthusiasm". We spell it "kerb" for the part of the road.
