It's not rude, but not entirely welcoming either, IMO. I'd rather say something like "but that was not the question".

Seems like the "better" is in the eye of the reader. Anyway, there were about two hours between the time I started writing this and now (work has this habit of interfering :), so now I've completely lost my train of thought, and can't remember what I wanted to say.
