Over here, the "architypal" Northerner, with a cloth cap and clogs, takes his Jack Russel to t' pub wi' 'im, where he sits and sups his warm pint of mild. They are used, unfortunately, for getting foxes or badgers out of their tunnels, to be dispatched by game-keepers or evil b*stards who gets a kick out of it.

>I had a Jack Russell who we just loved. He was the absolute best family dog and a great guard dog to boot. The only problem is that they are such good guard dogs and they are FAST. The meter reader came one day and climbed over the 6' fence we had at the time (they now read electronically and don't have to go to our house) and I didn't see him. My Jack Russell was fussing at the door and I was busy so I just assumed he needed to go outside and do his business. He started whining and then barking. I should have looked. When I opened the door our Jack Russelll shot out in a flash and grabbed his ankle before you could say BOO! That was okay, no real damage, but a few weeks later a stray cat jumped into my yard and wasn't fast enough. Once the Jack Russell got ahold of it he wouldn't let go no matter what and killed the poor thing. From that point on, our inside cat was dinner to him! We had our inside cat for 9 years so the Jack Russell had to be one to go. Luckily I found a
>couple who a JR too and they were looking for a companion for theirs. They got along great and we can see him whenever we want to.

>>>Well, thanks for the help. I had though that the ideal dog would be a shih tzu, but I wasn't quite sold on it. I will check out your suggestion.

>>You could also look at working terriers like Jack Russells. We've got a fox terrier from a working strain - behaves like a perfect gentle house dog at home but incorrigble on the hill.
>>Just a thought...
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
