i have not cleared out the update files as i am trying to defrag the d drive, although i may do it on the c drive anyway just to give it more room.

>It is not much use running it again and again. The defrag from W2K is old and not very good. First get yourself an up to date defrag like PerfectDisk or OODefrag. Then you need to get some more space. Any disk running with 10% or 15% free is simply not going to perform at an optimum level no matter what you do with the defrag. You are simply not giving the defragger enough room to work with.

>>its 2k server and i am using the regular defrag utility. i cleared out the old and unwanted files before starting. I have since deleted some more files and now have 4gb, about 15% free, but still only a bare sliver of white space on the display both before and after i run the defrag. there are two exchange files that are prob too big to defrag but everything else on the drive is200mb or less so they should be no problem. the report when it is finished looks very like the one when i start except a few files have a little less fragmentation. i've run it 4 time already adn am running it a 5th as i type.

>>>I've found that a defrag can be run many times and that things change each time towards more white-space. What does the "report" say when it's done?... It scrolls, so be sure to go down.

>>>>I am tyring to run defrag on a customers server over RD. there is about 17% free on the c drive and about 9% free on the d drive. when i run defrag on both it starts and finishes without giving any warnings and does defrag some files but it does not do the entire drive. on the d drive despite there being 9% free when you run the analysis first you cannot see any white space on the screne at all. the c drive is 10gb and the d is 22gb.
