Well they are the standards essentially. I always use binoculars on buttons that allow for searching, for example. Another idea would be to edit ones from samples to make your own. I took one bmp from samples and put a liferaft on it for a liferaft tracking application I wrote for the Coast Guard one time, and I have almost no artistic skills.
On another note, Corel makes cd's of clipart that I find handy in adding a little extra into my applications. Searching on clipart on the web may also yeild results...
Always be wary of making a picture on a button with no caption when the picture is amigous though. I remember that Wordperfect once had a button with two graphical X's on it - an undo button, not a very intuitive picture though. Consistency always helps - avoid picking a picture used in other windows apps but that you use to mean something completely different.
