I picked up the mag at lunch today and read thru the article. The purpose of reporting on SAIC is due to their blantant ties to the govt on many, many levels. Yet you very rarely hear about the company.

They discuss numerous cases of govt employees pushing for a particular project. Getting it approved. Having SAIC get the contract. Then when their govt employment is up, they become SAIC employees. I don't have the mag in front of me, but there is one guy they reported on who has moved back and forth from SAIC to govt employee several times over the last 10 yrs or so.

Also one of the things they discuss is several cases of whisteblowers coming forth to point out overbillings/failures to execute contracts correctly/other failures on SAIC's part. Yet they've only gotten fines of 1 or 2 million. This is a fine on a several hundred million dollar contract.

The only major problems they've gotten themselves into is a contract to develop security systems for the Olympics that took place in Greece in 2004. Remember the big stink about security since this was the first Olympics post 9-11. Greece has not fully paid SAIC due to their repeated failures at getting anything to work. Supposidly they are on the hook to get something to work by 2008. They did get into major problems over this one since they didn't have their buddies in the Pentagon to protect them.
