I would tend to disagree with Jim's view , especially where numeric input is concerned. In most cases, if you are ameding a number, I think it is actually faster to just land on the box and type in the whole number, otherwise you need to 1) ensure that you click in exactly the correct postition and 2)you will be entering just part of the number , when I think the natural inclination is to enter the whole number which is probably on a docket

If, for example, the value was 124.53 and I wanted to make it 125.53 I would click right before the 4 so I could do a Del and type 5 and be done with it. Your approach to handling the mouse would be frustrating to me in that situation.
