That's one of my all-time favorite movies. I'm sure you know it's based on the Scopes trial that featured Clarence Darrow vs. William Jennings Bryan. Tracy is the Darrow character; Fredric March is the Bryan character. Gene Kelly plays a character based on H. L. Mencken and Harry Morgan is the judge.
