Hi Tracy..

Well.. here we go.. you're missing many and many details because you're getting the text out of context.. I'll try to drive you on this track:

  1. Ten commandments can be reach on OT, mostly on Deuteronomy 5:16-22 that talk about Moses journey..
  2. Matthew 5:17, quoted by you, as example, show us the concern of Jew people with many of their questioning submited to Jesus. Hightlight on your mind, that special text "but to fulfil"..
  3. Apostles Paul on Galatians 5:14 "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." give us a link on how OT laws can be fulfil with acts and the two brand new commandments of Jesus Christ..
  4. Twelve is the number of laws for christians!!

Two last one has first priority on the life of any christian.. Because was straight given by Jesus mouth..

And.. humm (pause).. ok.. read that bellow!! it is a nice explanation..

Romans 13:8-10 "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."

Any other one else seeing on bible (far of the twelve) is used as references on the basic principles and set of christian behaviors..

in time.. here is the two Jesus commandments: Luke 10:27 "..Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. "
