Hi Tracy. That's why I used 'opposed' not 'oppose'. Past tense. At the time these subjects were being debated, conservatives generally opposed them and liberals generally supported them. This pattern continues, liberals generally support gay marriage, conservatives generally oppose. Every time on these major issues conservatives have been wrong, but eventaully come around (except for the radical fringe conservatives). So why support a philosophy that eventually comes around to what we all agree is right. Why not support the one that leads these changes? To me it is a logical choice.

>I disagree entirely. While many conservatives are christians, they do not oppose religious freedom. The majority of Democrats in the South are conservative Baptists or Presbyterian by the way. The rest of the items on the list are just plain ridiculous Evan. I don't see where you get that from? What single conservative that you know of supports slavery, equal rights for women, religious freedom, equal rights for minorities? The only item I will agree with is the one on evolution. If you poll the public, that is an issue of the religious right and cannot be tied to any single party. Am I missing a definition of a conservative? I'm not sure who you mean exactly when you use the term 'conservative.'

>>>If you believe this, then please post subtantive sources for your claims. Your list is only a personal opinion at this point Evan that is not refuted or supported by anything. Also, given the time period for some of your claims, it must be noted that 'conservatives' during some of those time periods came form different political parties.

>>>>Even looking at the definition of conservatism: "is a political philosophy that necessitates a defense of established values or the status quo". This is simply flawed. The idea that we've achieved perfection is unsupportable. Clearly from the list above conservatives were fighting to keep us in a society with a set of values that were terrible.
