Those who try to support the procreational type of marriage, and take survival as the requirement, actually don't have the survival of the species in mind. That will happen (or cease to happen) regardless of their effort.
They do have in mind the perpetuation of their own brand of religion/culture/civilization, i.e. of themselves. They want to see that there are more of their kind on Earth so they'll inherit it (though this doesn't sound meek to me). The same guys probably aren't happy with their competition "breeding like rabbits".
Also, any procreation proponent is IMO automatically suspect of actually wanting more soldiers.
