Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I've been nursing a Vista migraine for the last week...

Anything in the App.config file is supposed to be static. User configurable data should go in a file in the user's file space and configurable application data should go in a application data folder rooted as specified by the operating system on which it is running. In the case of Vista, that is normally "C:\ProgramData\". The path to the appropriate root folder is obtained from the operating system. As I understand it, the key is that the App.config file in the program folder is not to be changed by the application itself.

>I have been hearing that for years too, but I also thought they wanted .NET apps to create their config files as an XML file in the same directory with the apps exe. Am I correct on this? Do .config files work ok in the apps directory or does the new virtual direcotry take care of that? Or was that mixed messages?
