Films like The Ring. The Japanese original is one of the most gripping horrors I have ever seen and a brilliant representation of the supernatural on film (a favourite pet subject of mine). The western remake was abysmal (in my opinion).
The remakes are getting better but only because director/producer's like Sam Raimi (The Grudge, Grudge 2 - also Spiderman 1,2 & 3) are involving the original directors in their remakes. But the remakes are still no match for the originals.
