>>>My friend out in wine country says 101 outbound is so bad she won't even attempt it during rush "hour", especially on Fridays. If she has to be in "the City" (the only way she refers to SF, as though there are no others) she has dinner or something to wait the worst of it out.

>>Yes, San Francisco is "The City by the Golden Gate, or "The city"! Your friend is right! The problem is that it is too popular and too many people want to live here, which makes it a true pain you know where! :)

One such area is where freeway 237 and 880 meet. 237 is three lanes and has stop lites for commute hours to merge into 880. It is a total mess! It took me an hour to go one mile one day, on the way to Fremont.

>Earlier this week I read something about Bill Walsh, who as you surely know is dying of leukemia. He was reminiscing about the first time the 49ers won the Super Bowl, the first time a team from San Francisco had won a pro sports championship. He said he argued against a victory parade. A native himself, he said San Franciscans are too sophisticated, they won't go to a parade. He said they started out along the Embarcadero and thought his fears were correct. "There was nobody there, nothing. And then we turned onto Market Street...."
