Back in the 80s (remember 55mph everywhere) I would travel in CA and be amazed that everyone was driving 75 MPH. I think the reasoning was "They can't stop us all, there will be the occasional victim, but 1000 of us will get by for every one they stop".
When I moved to Montana in '93, there was no posted speed limit on rural highways. The law was drivers must maintain 'Reasonable and prudent' speed. Left a lot to the imagination.

Sometimes in the afernoon there will be a few going over that, but we have so many unmarked cars in this area that there is always one or two pulled over that you pass. What is tricky now is NC has a law that you MUST pull over to the left lane when you pass a cop which is on the side of the road and if there is not a left lane then you you have to slow wayyyyyyyyy down. Traffic will jam up really quickly in those spots!
