No, I really don't think that is the case.

I have been kept in the loop about VFP decisions for a long time now, and I can tell you that most of the VFP decisions revolve around community considerations. In particular the question of "what happens to the businesses of people who use mostly VFP?" is an ever present one that I guarantee you, people at Microsoft have lost sleep over.

Microsoft could have made an end-of-life announcement for VFP years ago, but instead, they decided to publish the VFP roadmap a while back. This way (so the reasoning went as far as I can tell), software companies who base their apps on VFP have time and can continue to sell their applications without having to battle a situation where customers have seen a Microsoft announcement that says VFP is dead.

Just consider applications like JFast. It might have killed JFast's business on the spot if Microsoft would have announced last night's announcement a year or two earlier. Instead, a roadmap was released so one had some time. That sort of scenario was specifically considered.

So I don't think it is fair to say that Microsoft doesn't care. There are a lot of good guys working there (especially on the VFP team) who put a huge personal effort into making this work as long as possible. YAG for instance, is in the unfortunate position that he has to make the announcement. I am sure that isn't easy for him, after having kept things going personally.

Anyway: Just my personal opinion.

Markus
