You know, I think most of us are having some level of emotional reaction to the announcement last night, whether or not we saw the "writing on the wall". To me, that's a perfectly reasonable response.

It's interesting about Miami and how vocal people were about it. Would Microsoft have been able to get away with last night's announcement back then in Miami? I think the answer is No. So, why can they do it now? Market conditions have changed, to be sure, with .NET and other technologies coming along. We've also seen MVP's and other prominent members of the community, who were "voices" for the rest of us, move on to other things. No criticisms from me on that, but the thread title does apply in a sense. Did we as a community lose our voice? Were we so content with VFP developments that MS no longer saw the need to appease us? Would it have mattered if we spoke louder? I guess not, but just a thought.
