Nick,

>Do you think this means VB support for LINQ will be better then c# support. I notice all the references to whats happening to the VFP team refer to VB.

Knowing what Calvin, Aleksey and Richard have done with VFP over the years, and knowing that all three of them are working on the VB.NET integration with the core LINQ engine, you can draw your own conclusions. What I have seen in the VB.NET sessions today has been very impressive.

Calvin is focusing on VB.NET Intellisense related to LINQ and it is way cool and got lots of applause again and again as they showed cool new features, such as exposing references to related tables in the dropdowns when writing LINQ statements against database tables. It's pretty interesting to see him becoming a hero to a new set of people. :-)

Aleksey is working with Query Expression support and Richard is on the team doing the Object / Relational mapping tool that will ship with VB.NET.

I think the key is that the VB team has some product managers that "get it" related to ease of working with data in VB. I'm also watching a presentation right now about some local data caching mechanisms including synchronization from local "cursor" (they're not calling it that, but that's essentially what it is) to backend database, including hooks where you can tie in code for validations, etc. This will work also across n-tier apps using Windows Communication Foundation (WCF - formerly Indigo). Heads are spinning in the room as VB coders get a good look at what working with data can really be like in Orcas.
