David,
John, I'm a bit of an idealist in thinking that companies should do the right thing once in a while (and for the right reasons).I don't think this will be one of them. ;-) To be fair, VFP will continue to function as it did yesterday, it's not as if MS is turning off a switch and plunging us into darkness.
I'm also reminded of my grandfather's advice when I bought one of the early TRS-80 handheld devices and a better one came out almost immediately from Sharp. "It's as good as the day it was you bought it," was his advice. It's good advice and I've used it profitably on many occasions. ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
