They busiest freeway in North America is Highway 401 through Toronto. Here is a quote from the history of the highway:

Today, Highway 401 also has the dubious honour of being the busiest freeway in North America, with traffic volumes surpassing the Santa Monica Freeway in California. At times traffic peaks around 400,000 vehicles a day between Keele Street and Islington Avenue in the west end of Toronto. And the 401 bridges over Hogg's Hollow (now being widened) carry more traffic each day than the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson.

>You are probably right. I drove for awhile in LA back in 1989 and it was a mess. I'm sure it is 10 times worse now. My sister lives out there and I refuse to even visit that state if I can help it. (Of course I was in Monterey during the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 which changed my views on CA). I think Houston and Atlanta come close to terrible traffic though!
