>Hi Yag,

>This announcement is no doubt sad, but not totally surprising news. As the owner of a series of VFP applications used by hundreds of police agencies, that in turn, serve literally millions of people, this situation poses a real dilemma. Any transition (dotNet, Python etc.) won't be without some pain.
>
>Obviously VFP can and likely will survive for a little while longer and with the additional extensibility being introduced with Sedna, we, the user community, can help prolong VFP's life if we so choose. Frankly VFP 9 is so complete now I think many of us could live with it, as is, for a long long time.
>
>It would appear that the largest single threat to the longevity of VFP is compatibility with the Windows OS beyond Vista! Since the "CORE" of VFP is not going to be made public, it would seem to me that while the user community will have he ability to extend VFP it likely won't have the ability to, if needed, adapt to new rev's of the OS. Such a change would have to be made by MSFT and that probably won't happen. So, to try to put a realistic timeline on the urgency of this situation perhaps you can clarify something for us.
>
>As I understand it (please correct me if I am wrong) mainstream support for VFP 9 lasts into 2010 and extended support until 2014. Historically, we have seen MSFT introduce a new OS about every 5-6 years. Therefore we can presume that the OS rev beyond Vista will be introduced beyond the term of VFP 9's mainstream support. Does the context of "extended" support address compatibility with current (thru 2014) OS revs or can we conclude based on the numbers that Vista is the last OS rev that we can be assured VFP 9 will run on?

Good point that the main issue will come up as new versions of Windows appear.
