>>Late majority or Laggards
>>
>>I think that word "laggard" carries a payload. ;-) There seems to be an implicit assumption that anybody using VFP in 2007 is backward or slow. It's not true. Many of those using VFP do so because the proposed replacements simply aren't as good.

>>FWIW, I've exercised the same judgement when buying cars. since 2000 I've probably saved $50,000 by refusing to upgrade every time a new model came out unless there was a definite reason to do so. IMHO there never was, so I saved my $. Others upgraded every time. When I upgrade this year I'll have the same vehicle as them, but I'll be $50,000 ahead. So who's the laggard? ;-)

>There is a leak in the boat. Not that it will sink like the titanic. It is very likely it will float for quit some years, but now the captain has officially left the boat. The time will come the coocks will leave too, so you will have to do your own coocking. The orchestra will leave too, so you will have to do your own singing, so will do the rest of the crew and travelers. I hope you leave in time, because it might get dark and lonely there at the bottom of the sea ...
Are you always so upbeat? <g>
My experience is that in every setback there is opportunity. One just needs to be willing and able to recognize it. In this case my guess is that we have a 3-5 year window in which we can continue to be gainfully employed doing VFP work and/or learning other technologies with a new sense of urgency. Last week's announcement is not such tragic news when viewed in that light.
I mention only in passing that in the movie "Titanic", to which you clearly refer, the captain goes down with his ship and the band keeps playing. Make of that whatever you will <g>.
