I've downloaded several of the free videos for visual web developer and played with it a little. I'm impressed with what I see there so far and I'm sure it will only get better. I actually took some courses on the dot net 1.0 stuff and I absolutely hated it. There were way too many links in the chain. This is getting good. What is the timeframe for the release of the whales anyway?
