But similar enough that having one on your resume looks good to a shop having trouble recruiting for a position that is actually for the other language.

For instance, C++ and Flash ActionScript has a certain syntax similarity, but that doesn't mean that the environments are similar. And that kind of comparison probably isn't too far from comparing a Java app with a WPF/C# app...
