I think YAG has already answered that question too: The MVP summit seemed to be a good point in time to make an announcement (after all, it happens only once every 18 months or so). There really is no good time to make such a call/announcement, so it surely is best to do it when as many community representatives as possible are present is person.

Plus, with Vista, .NET 3.0, and a bunch of other technologies just shipping a few months back (which make up a huge wave of next-gen technologies), this seems to be an obvious time to re-visit the issue. On top of that, .NET 3.5 and Orcas will ship in late 2007, so the next wave is already approaching. (This makes the 5th major release of .NET... none of which VFP participated in, so the issue appears to become somewhat pressing...).
