>Sdjan I'm not saying that people should pannic, and perhaps most aren't saying the same, but I think and that is my oppinion is that if you work for a company that develops professional software, you have to think if the current tool you are working now will be the right tool to bet the future of the company.
>Sure VFP will run for many years but leat me ask you something if you have to get a version of word to work on will you install winword 2.0 for windows 3.11? i'm sure will be possible to make it run in winXP with 16bit compatibility mode but will you want that?

You are exagerrating gap between VFP9 and Vista and what is after vista.
Better comparison (and conclusion) can be drawn if you compare
VFP6 trying to run on XP (that is how many versions diff ?)
I wld not defenetely purchase vfp6 to start my new app under XP,
but VFP9 is completely different animal. It is already being upgraded for Vista. We are not yet sure how/if/when Vista will be replaced with another
OS and what will be Linux 'rock scene' 15 years from now.

As non commercial developer who runs inhouse system,
I can safely assume that what I write now in VFP9 can run another 15 years.
if I keep XP or Vista OS environment.
If I was professional developer, then I wld advice my users accrdingly
and depend how much they depend on / respect me they wld do more less the same if not 15 then at least 10 years.

Those among us who build for fortune 500, I don't know. Even there
I doubt F500 will flip all their OS overnight as soon Vista is out.

5-10 years is very safe buffer period for us to take care of our future.
