The tables are not your problem. Dates are stored 8 bytes regardless. Your problem may be in the application. For quick and dirty, do the following:
1) Check all source code for any SET CENTURY commands. Ensure that all of them are SET CENTURY ON. This changes date defaults from MM/DD/YY to MM/DD/YYYY.
2) Check your screens and reports and ensure that there is space enough for the century to be displayed.
This will solve 95% of your problem as far as FPW 2.6 is concerned.
