I thought you guys were talking about 6 degrees of separation - the linking of any 2 people in the world via 6 people in a chain, and hence on to a game of linking 2 people by tenuous links (e.g. they both appeared in a certain film, or were romantically linked to the same woman, or, as in my case, the name on their undies.

Maybe the game I always played was the Kevin Bacon version then.
