Why has liberalism been right and conservatism been wrong on the major issues of our times? For instance
- equal rights for women
- equal rights for non whites
- equal rights for homosexuals
Liberalism generally supported these, conservatism generally opposed them. Conservatives (except for radicals) came around eventually. Isn't this proof that conservatism is flawed. What if the liberals hadn't tried so hard? The wrong side would have won.
Based on this track record, I must choose liberalism. First, to clarify, I'm far to the right of center, but I'm NOT a conservative. Traditional conservatives (and liberals) are a bag of mixed premises.
To answer your question - some conservatives have been against equal rights for women, non-whites, and gays. Some have. Not every conservative is a chauvenist and racist.
Yes, some liberals have fought hard for equal rights....and some have carried it way too far with pushing quotas, affirmative action, politcal power groups asking for 'compensation', etc.
