Supposedly that isn't quite so true any more but I wouldn't chance it either.

I was in Detroit for a weekend last month and it was striking how many of the news reports were about the auto industry. Despite their trials and tribulations the auto business still accounts for 4% of our GNP. And that's national, not just Detroit. Detroit is still a car town.
