In the past they went on recess November 18th and returned December 12th. That's hardly a week! :o) Here is the 2006 schedule:

It remains unclear how much serious legislative business will be conducted before the 109th Congress officially adjourns, most likely on Dec. 15. By this evening, lawmakers will have adjourned for a two-week Thanksgiving recess, returning for a final two weeks of legislative work on Dec. 4. Just prior to the holiday recess, both houses voted on a continuing budget resolution that will keep the government running through Dec. 8.

>>I don't see evidence of a gap (yet). When have you ever known anyone in government to work around Thanksgiving? The real question is were all of the parties involved in the emails working then? Typically congress and the administration and most government bodies dissappear during the holidays for a couple of weeks. It is amazing how little they actually work.
