>>>There is no shortage of land for growing corn. I would said the downside is not biofuel, but speculation in the corn market.
>>
>>I'd disagree. Maybe not in N. America but we DO have the rest of the world to feed, and the popn. is growing rapidly at the same time as increase in demand for fuel. At some time you've got to toss up between cultivating the land for humans or their cars, as well as actually accommodating them. All put pressure on demand for land (let alone Al Gore and his conscience trees).
>>
>>I read somewhere (maybe posted on the UT) that there's no way enough land can be cultivated to run all combustion engines.
>
>That's a different issue. There is no shortage of land to meet the current needs of biofuel. Sure there is a spike in demand which needs to be caught up to, but the increase in corn prices is not because we have run out of arable land.
No way are biofuels the answer .You'll never be able to make enough. This is about votes .US farmers get happy because they have a market for a product nobody wanted.
