"Collateral" is another good one. He definitely doesn't play a Tom Cruise character in it (self-absorbed jerk who learns some life lesson and turns into a good guy). IMO Michael Mann is pretty much incapable of making a bad movie. See also "Heat" and, oh, what was that 80s TV series set in Miami? <g>
