So far I have checked out several languages,VB.Net,C#.Net, Java, Real Basic, Perl, C# (mono), and Python.
I find that Python is the easiest to read and the closes to VFP. In fact two VFP'ers Ed Leafe and Paul McNett have developed a great 3-tier framework called Dabo. At this point I would have to say I'm biased because I'm using it daily. But you should check out the screencasts that are available @
www.dabodev.com.
At the moment the base lib's are very stable and the IDE is in development. If you watch the screencast "creating a data app" (about 10 minutes) you will see how powerful and simple it is to create a cross platform data app.
Long live VFP but I'm using Python more and more daily.
