The only thing PC about me is my computer. I've hunted forever, it's my heritage, just as it is probably yours. As for getting away, I hunted in the Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana for a week one time and that was "different". In Colorado, when I hunt for elk, about all you have to worry about is the occassional black bear or cougar. Cougars are usually too scared to come close to an adult human, except for those who live near Bolder (liberal bastion), and if they eat one of those, it's a good thing!
In Montana, you have to sleep with one eye on the griz, otherwise, some very large, nasty animal with very bad breath will be all up on you before you know it and the gun will work better on you, than on the bear. Of course, it is advisable to hunt with a buddy, but you want to make sure you can outrun them. You only have to outrun your friend if you encounter a bear, not the bear!<g>
