>>>The story is told in the first person singular by Jonah Scott, a British pilot who has arrived in New York City on his regular flight from London. The United States has collapsed into the equivalent of a bankrupt third-world country after using up all of its oil reserves and a resultant collapse of the dollar. After spending a night in a city which has descended into chaos and anarchy he and his crew ready their airliner to carry a full load of evacuees to London. Shortly after take off from New York City the pilot is informed that Israel has attacked three Arab cities with nuclear weapons in retaliation for their poisoning of Israel's water supply. This triggers a worldwide nuclear holocaust while the plane is en route to London ...
>>>
>>>I wonder if any of you have read it. Ever since I've always feared that the holocaust will originate in the ME, and not between USA and Russia. The more I hear of ME countries' nuclear aspirations, and now the fact that India and Pakistan have the bomb (since my reading the book) the scarier the book gets.
>>
>>Well, I don't know about nuclear perspectives, but at least the book is wrong on oil reserves issue. Actually, USA will be the last country exhausting own oil reserves. It might happen they will not be so valuable at that point, but still it will be something that other countries won't have.
>
>I don't know - if y'all go on buting gas-guzzling 4X4s, the current exponential trend in air travel continues, more and more houses built with a/c on all summer. You know the USA squanders too much power. And why has GW intro'd this new energy-saving initiative? SO the USA is less dependant on the ME. Well, if there's so much oil left in the USA why arte you buying it from abroad. I saw a prog not so long ago that featured the dwindling oil resources of, esp. Texas. Maytbe you havge some extra info - whatever. The main point of the book, notwithstanding, is about a holocaust.

I understand, but I responded to specifics. USA is the only country that currently prohibits oil drilling on most land and continental shelf areas, so realistically speaking it has the best chance to keep this oil while other countries resources get taken out, as you correctly said, with alarming speed.
