I think King is a bit different though, in that he writes all his novels almost like film scripts: it takes very little effort to convert. That's probably cos just about every one he's written has become a film, so he probably "cuts out the middle man".
Did you ever read "It" (just about his best, I'd say)? I saw it as a film in my mind's eye as I read it, such that when I did see the film it was like deja vu.
