There is some truth in this. However, it should be the MVP's decision on what to write or not write and not have his hand forced by Microsoft.

The problem is that once you are an MVP, this can be used to elevate yourself above your fellow developers, at least in the marketing of yourself. And once you do this, you don't want to lose that title. But talking openly and honestly about M$ and not being a cheerleader for them will most likely end up in your loss of that title. So there is an incentive to say the things M$ wants to hear. This is more true with some MVPs than others (and some MVPs are actually ga-ga over M$ and think they do no wrong, so at leat they're honest - delusional, but honest). And, of course, saying this to an MVP is never popular, just like an MVP criticizing M$ would not be popular with M$, but it's not an uncommon observation within this community (and probably others). An MVP gets advantages from the relationship and is therefore not inclined to do anything to lose those advantages. That makes the
