That argument will always be there just like whether the USAF plane was in Chinese air space or not a few years ago. I suspect in both cases they were close enough to raise the concerns of the country in question.

This is a cat and mouse game and the Brits knew exactly where they were and what they were doing and the Iranians acted in a way they believe is most advantageous to them. But please let no one claim some sort of innocent bytander status here.

Question remains, I wonder what would happen if a small Iranian navel ship were to venture into or even just near UK waters. I suspect they would be held for questioning and clarification of their actions.
