Thanks. After looking through the thread, I could not find a technique that explicitly interrogated an object's ACL for specific NTFS permissions, this so that you could pass in an object (e.g., a folder), and get back a bitmask that would indicate things for a specific user like:
- Can list folder contents
- Can create / delete files in folder
- Has all access denied
- Is the object owner
... and likewise for file objects rather than folder objects.
All the techniques I saw seemed to rely on testing and error trapping rather than just asking the system for a comprehensive list of what's allowed for the user.
